Jeffery Talks to Jack

Jeffery is a resident at one of the aged care places we visit.

 Jeffery can move his fingers just a little and not much else. He is quite a wonderful man, behind his bed on the walls are some incredible tapesteries all done by him. He has won many craft and art shows with his pieces. The hours creating these really remarkable works of art would be countless.

Jeffery tries to talk but really is just a mumble. It's a shame because he would have some wonderful storys to tell. Well he loves Jack and he allowes his K9 friend onto his bed. Jack puts his head on Jeffery's lap and then I place Jeffreys hand on Jacks head. Jeffery moves his fingers the best he can and Jack just lays there. Sometimes I hold Jeffreys hand and put some dog treats in his hand for Jack, I'm sure they both get something out of this arrangement.

We had been going there for some 3 or 4 months and started on our usual rounds of the home. Well we got to Jefferys room and all of a sudden and as plain as anything Jeffery said in quite a loud voice, "Jack". Wow what a suprise I got, I had never heard Jeffery really speak before but today was different.

So now when we go to see Jeffery I ask him to call Jack and most times he does. I tell this story over and over it really did show me the power a dog can have. Jack see's many people old and young and he makes a difference to many lives. And I know there are more Jeffery's out there and that makes me smile.
